Barry Edward Traynor (born 9 December 1946) is an Australian former politician. He was born in Ararat and attended Ararat High School before working as a bank teller from 1964 to 1965. In 1966 he joined the Police Force, where he remained until 1992. He served until his defeat in 1999, whereupon he returned to the police service.He was stationed at Russell Street,Fitzroy before being stationed at Ballarat.He was a uniformed officer a Detective Sergeant at Ballarat and retired in 2002 as an Inspecotor Staff Officer to the Commander No.1 Region. He was awarded four Chief Commissioners commendations for investigation of crime and multiple arrests. He holds many diplomas in policing and a Diploma of Security and Risk Management.Awarded a Parliamentary Study Tour visiting the UK, Canada and Jersey Channel Islands meeting with law enforcement departments discussing crime and drugs. In retirement volunteered for McCallum Industries in Ballarat and did some work with the City of Ballarat in graffiti removal programs.Now a Police Veterans Peer Support Officer volunteer looking after retired police suffering from PTS, depression, alcoholism, anxiety and many associated problems.
